LIBRA at the Lions District 105SE Convention: Supporting Life-Saving Haematology Care

LIBRA

On Saturday 15th February 2025, the 53rd Convention of Lions District 105SE took place at the stunning Canterbury Cathedral Lodge. It was a day of inspiration, learning, and collaboration as Lions from across the district gathered to celebrate their achievements and look ahead to future projects. Among the highlights of the day was LIBRA’s important role in showcasing the impact of our ongoing support for King’s College Hospital’s Haematology Department.

Highlighting Transformational Patient Care

LIBRA Chairman Andrew Lodge had the honour of introducing Carole Cobain Patel, Head of Nursing at King’s Haematology Unit, to speak about the impact of recent ward refurbishments. These improvements made possible through LIBRA, Lions Clubs, patient donations, legacies, and LCIF funding, have transformed the haematology wards, creating a brighter and more comfortable space for patients undergoing vital treatments.

Carole was joined by fellow haematology nursing team members Regina de Jesus, Mabel Sam-Esprit, and Kay Biljohn, who shared first-hand experiences of caring for patients with Leukaemia, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, Myeloma, Sickle Cell Disease, and other serious blood disorders. Their insight reinforced the critical need for ongoing support, as patient well-being and access to cutting-edge treatments depend on these vital improvements.

LIBRA’s Presence at the Convention

LIBRA’s PDG Eddy Warn proudly manned our stand, engaging with visitors and sharing information about our work. He also facilitated donations and arranged upcoming King’s Haematology presentations and ward visits for Lions Clubs in April, ensuring that more supporters can witness the difference LIBRA is making in haematology care.

It was an honour to welcome District Governor Steve Carley and 2nd International Vice President of LCI Mark Lyons to the stand, where they expressed their support for LIBRA’s work and the life-changing impact of fundraising efforts.

Why Your Support is Essential

Every year, over 40,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with blood cancer, and thousands more face life-altering blood disorders. The funds raised by LIBRA directly support groundbreaking research, ward refurbishments, and state-of-the-art equipment that helps King’s College Hospital remain at the forefront of haematology treatment.

With your help, we can continue to improve patient experiences, drive new advancements in treatment, and ultimately save lives.

Join Us in Making a Difference

LIBRA relies on the generosity of the public, patients and their families, and Lions Clubs across the UK to continue this essential work. Your donations help ensure that haematology patients receive the best possible care and access to the latest medical breakthroughs.
