CELBRATING THE SUPPORT OF LIONS

LIBRA

This year marks 52 years of the Lions Clubs International District 105 SE. Lions members celebrated at the organisation’s annual convention which took place on 11th February at the Marriott Hotel in Bexleyheath. Lions District Governor for 105SE Rizvi Rawoof and his wife Dr Habiba Rawoof welcomed members, including LIBRA Trustees, and special guests.

During the convention, Bexley and Sidcup Lions presented LIBRA with a generous donation of £1,500. The funds were raised through the Club’s popular annual Bollywood Night – for which we are most grateful.

A range of fantastic presentations were made throughout the day and LIBRA Chairman Andrew Lodge updated delegates on progress with our current Going for Gold Campaign and outlined how important the ongoing support of the Lions Clubs is to our appeal.

He went on to introduce the NHS Clinical Director Roopen Arya, Professor of Thrombosis and Haemostasis at King’s College Hospital. Roopen gave a fascinating presentation on CAR T therapy. CAR T is the name given to chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) genetically modified T cells that recognize and kill cancer cells. CAR T is a powerful new treatment for cancer.

In recognition of his dedication to haematology, District Governor Rizvi presented Roopen with a Lions 105SE banner.
